Accreditation Program

In 2003, the Legislature of the State of Arkansas enacted legislation in Act 754 of 2003 to require that local communities with floodplain management ordinances:

1. appoint a floodplain manager to administer local floodplain management laws, and

2. obtain accreditation of the floodplain administrator through the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission

The purpose of the legislation was to make sure that local floodplain management regulations were properly administered, thereby reducing the likelihood of future flood damages to property owners in Arkansas.

LEGISLATION/RULES AND REGULATIONS

Legislation and rules which refer to the Floodplain Manager Accreditation Program are located on the FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT LEGISLATION page.

The annual accreditation will begin shortly after the first of the year.  Local floodplain administrators will receive written notice and all information necessary to pursue re-accreditation.  Copies of forms, training schedule and qualifying continuing education will be posted on this website when they are available.
